Edmund A. Allcock is widely regarded as one of the premier condominium and real estate litigators and lawyers in New England having devoted 28 years to that practice.

Ed has the unique distinction of having argued multiple condominium related cases in the Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island Supreme Courts, as well as the First Circuit Court of Appeals. Whether it is construction defect, condominium phasing, statutory interpretation, zoning, adverse possession, insurance, title claims or easements rights, Ed is one of the “go to” condominium and real estate litigators in New England. Ed also provides general advice to condominium boards and developers, including the creation and amendment of condominium documents.

Ed’s recognized for his insights and has also undertaken roles as a mediator and arbitrator. Ed’s proficiency led him to serve, consult and testify as an expert witness on numerous matters, showcasing his in-depth knowledge in the field.

Ed has been named a Massachusetts and New England Super Lawyer by Boston Magazine for fourteen (14) consecutive years. In 2018 Ed was selected as Massachusetts Lawyer of the Year by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly for his decade long advocacy on a critical condominium legal issue resulting in the 2018 Massachusetts Supreme Court Decision Cambridge Point Condominium Trust v. Cambridge Point, LLC, 478 Mass. 697 (2018) where the Court ruled that a developer’s insertion of an anti-litigation provision within condominium by-laws was void for public policy reasons.

Ed’s commitment to condominium and real estate law extends beyond New England into the national arena. In 2011, Ed was inducted into the prestigious national College of Community Association Lawyers (“CCAL”), whose goal is the development and promotion of community association legal education and advocacy globally. In 2017, Ed was elected by his peers to serve on the CCAL Board of Governors. In 2020, Ed served as the President of CCAL. Ed also serves on the CCAL Law Seminar Planning Committee and served as its chair in 2015 and 2016. From 2018 to the present Ed served as co-chair of the CCAL amicus committee, which in 2018 alone filed over twenty (20) amicus (Friend of court) briefs in significant condominium and HOA cases across the country. In 2018 and 2019, Ed presented the case law update at the annual CCAL law seminar, during which he touched upon over 200 condominium and HOA related cases that had been decided across the country each year.

In addition to his strong national presence, Ed is an active member of the Community Association Institute’s New England Chapter. Ed Served on the Board of Directors for the New England Chapter from 2015 to 2021 and was its President in 2020. During his Presidency, Ed helped develop virtual education programs and formatting due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Ed’s efforts in that regard were recognized when he was named CAI-NE 2020 Volunteer of the Year.

Ed also served as Chair of the CAI-NE Chapter Rhode Island Legislative Action Committee from 2008 to 2018 during which time we was involved in securing passage of priority lien legislation to benefit Rhode Island Condominium Associations. Ed remains an active member of the CAINE RI LAC. Ed continues to lecture and teach both locally and nationally on condominium and real estate related legal issues.
